A month in León & Las Peñitas

Throughout December, I commuted between León and the beach. The distance is less than 30km and the ride takes only 30 minutes. The nice thing is you have both the urban León and the beach feeling of Las Peñitas.

León is a student city which offers a lot of good cheap food and is also hard to beat for shopping. Many second hand shop’s, Natural pharmacies, markets and supermarkets. From the hairdresser to the shoemaker you can find everything in León. The city is popular with backpackers, especially for the cathedral and the nearby Vulcano Boarding on the Cerro Negro.

Often the salsa night from the Olla Quemada pulled me back to León on Thursdays and then my spontaneity back to the coast. I just drifted to the point where I decided to spend Christmas in Las Peñitas.

Also, I visited the Surfing Turtle Lodge just north of Las Peñitas, as well as two Swiss guys in Poneloya, which I met spontaneously.

It was a busy month with many surprises and it felt more like a stay than after traveling around.
