Es ist Dienstag Morgen 06:00 Uhr, ich stehen bereit für die Reise nach Guatemala. Zusammen mit drei weiteren Backpackern aus meinem Hostel warte ich auf den gebuchten Shuttle. Mit 30 Minuten Verspätung trifft dieser dann ein und sobald alle Ruckäcke auf dem Dach verstaut waren gings los. Meine erste Grenzüberquerung in Latinamerika über den Landweg.
Nach über 4 Stunden und einem Frühstücksstopp hielten wir kurz vor der Grenze beim Migrationsbüro von Mexico. Hier hiess es natürlich bezahlen, 25 USD kostet der Ausreisestempel und damit wird auch gleich die 6-monatige Touristenkarte bezahlt. Danach ging die Fahrt weiter an die Grenze. Lustigerweise fahren wir mitten durch einen Markt und halten dann in einer Seitenstrasse. Von hier mussten wir zu Fuss weiter, knapp 200m warens aber nur noch bis zur offiziellen Grenzstelle. Und diese ist umgeben von Souvenirständen, Tacoverkäufer, Kleider, Früchtestände und allem was man sich sonst an einer europäischen Grenze nie vorstellen könnte. Doch etwas fehlte… die Grenzkontrolle! Wir marschierten gmühtlich nach Guatemala rüber und holten uns dort im unscheinbaren Migrationsbüro den Einreisestempel für günstige Fr. 1.20.
Danach gings nach gut einer Stunde warten mit einem guatemalischen Minibus weiter nach Panaachel. Die Fahrt durchs gebiergige Guatemala war kurvig, abentuerlich, rasant und trotzdem lange. Die Sonne ging bereits unter als wir in Panajachel eintrafen. Von hier aus gings mit dem Boot weiter, quer über den Lago de Atitlán. Um ca. 18:45 Uhr trafen wir nach über 12 Stunden voller Eindrücke in San Pedro La Laguna ein. Und hier bleibe ich nun einige Zeit, mit dem Ziel spanisch zu lernen.
It’s tuesday morning 06:00am , I’m ready for the trip to Guatemala. Together with three other backpackers from my hostel I wait for the booked shuttle. 30 minutes late it arrived and once all backpackers are stored on the roof, the journey began. My first border crossing in latin america through land. After about 4 hours and a breakfast break we stopped just before the border at the immigration office of Mexico. Here we had to pay 25 USD for the exit stamp of and therefore is also equal to the 6-month tourist visa. Then the journey continued to the border. Funny way we drove trough the middle of a market and stoppee on a side street. From here we had to walk on, around 200m to the official border crossiny. And that is surrounded by souvenir shops and, taco sellers, dresses stores, fruit markets and everything you never find on a european border. But something was missing … the border control! we walked into Guatemala and enterd there the unassuming migrationn office. There we got the entry permit stamp for cheap Fr. 1.20. after well an hour wait, we moved on with a guatemaltecian minibus towards Panajachel. The journey through the mountain area of Guatemala was curvaceous, adventures, fast and still long. The sun already set when we arrived in Panajachel. From there, we went by boat further, across the lago de atitlán. approximately 18:45 pm we reachef after about 12 hours full impressions San Pedro La Laguna. And here I will stay now some time, with the aim to learn spanish.
