After a relaxing weekend at the lake, we decided to take a trip to Tikal on monday. With the Collectivo we drove almost 30 minutes into the jungle to the ruins of Tikal. It is the most visited Mayan city in Guatemala and one of the most important of all Mayan sites. The park was very natural, huge and not affected by the season. We were around 5 hours on the journey through the jungle and saw almost all the big buildings. One highlight was certainly the avocado sandwich lunch on top of the Temple IV with the view over the jungle and the other temples.

In Tikal it was also discovered that the Mayan calendar ends on 21. December 2012. The end of the world, which is obviously not true. Also a part of a Star Wars film was filmed in Tikal
An impressive place with a lot of history and lively jungle.

A great day which one we ended in the evening cozy at the lake with new acquaintances from all around the world.
