Zurück in Peru folgte eine lange Reise über fast unbewohnte Landschaften runter Richtung Küste und schlussendlich durch die Wüste bis nach Arequipa, oft erwähnt als die schönste Stadt in Peru.
Und ja das hat was, gelegen auf knapp über 2300m und umgeben von mehreren Vulkanen mit teils über 5000m hoch und mit Schnee bedeckt liegt sie an einem sehr schönen Fleck. Zwar mitten in der kargen, trockenem Landschaft, doch davon spührt man in der Stadt eher wenig. Arequipa lebt und überzeugt mit vielen kleinen Spots, schönen Parks, netten Menschen, gutem Essen und nicht zuletzt durch seine gut erhaltenen spanischen Kolonialbauten. Grösstenteils ist die ganze Stadt in schlichtem weiss gehalten, was sie sehr klassisch und sauber wirken lässt. Doch sobald man ein Gebäude betretet wird man von grünen Innenhöfen, bunten Farben und fröhlichen Gesichtern willkommen geheissen.
Wie es nicht anders sein kann blieb ich deutlich länger als gedacht und genoss jeden Tag in dieser einzigartigen Stadt. Wohl unteranderem auch um den 17 Stunden Nachtbus nach Lima zu unterbinden.
Back in Peru, a long journey followed along almost uninhabited landscapes down the coast and finally through the desert to Arequipa, often mentioned as the most beautiful city in Peru.
And yes that has something, located at just over 2300m and surrounded by several volcanoes with some over 5000m high and covered with snow, it is located on a very nice spot. Although in the middle of the barren, dry landscape, but you do not feel much of that in the city. Arequipa lives and convinces with many small spots, beautiful parks, nice people, good food and not least by its well-preserved Spanish colonial buildings. For the most part, the whole city is kept in plain white, which makes it look very classic and clean. But once you enter a building, you are greeted by green patios, bright colors and happy faces.
And of course I stayed much longer than expected and enjoyed every day in this unique city. Probably among other things to prevent the 17 hour night bus to Lima.
