While visiting Quitó for the second time, I also took a day trip to Cotopaxi Volcano. With 5897m the second highest mountain in Ecuador and even two meters higher than Kilimanjaro.

We left early at seven in the morning. My company was Daniel, a German with whom I had already met in Bogotá. With the bus we drove to the park entrance. And from there the last 20 kilometers high up to 4500m we got a ride.

The weather was clearly on our side and so we got the full glory of Cotopaxi to face and also the breathtaking surroundings radiated in the sunlight. The first kilometer up to over 4800m had it in itself and took much longer than expected. After a short break it was time to head up to the glacier edge on over 5000m. This one we reached completely out of breath but totally happy and with a view as you rarely get to face.

Unbelievable was this experience and also the return journey was more than happy. We got a ride with a Colombian school class and even all the way back to Quitó.
