Ocotepeque, Gracias & Lago de Yojoa

Categories Honduras

Ocotepeque hiess mein erster Halt in Honduras.

Ocotepeque was my first stop in Honduras. Stayed at Manuel. Through Google, I became aware of his accommodation. Officially, they do not exist yet. Manuel took over a Uncle’s house, big and built in the Spanish style, including a huge garden. I did not know the address, so I just asked around when I arrived in Ocotepeque. The locals were incredibly friendly everyone wanted to help me and after 3-4 tips I finally found the house without problems. That would not be imaginable in a city like this back home.

In Ocotepeque and Manuel at Casa Chila I stayed 4 nights and enjoyed the hospitality as well as the charm of the village.

Then I moved on to Gracias for one night and to Lake Yojoa. Again, unfortunately, I only stayed one night. The weather was not on my side, it was rainy or cloudy and gray. So I used the cooler temperatures for another long bus ride to La Ceiba.

From here you can take the ferry in less than an hour to the island of Utila. However, this did not go on the same day, the weather was too stormy. So I stayed at the next hostel and tried my luck with success early the next morning.
