Nach einigen Tagen in Quitó südlich des Ecuadors reisten wir wieder in die nördliche Hemisphere. Zuerst für drei Nächte nach Otavalo und dann nochmals zwei in Mindo.
In Otavalo besuchten wir den bekannten aber meiner Meinung nach eher unspektakulären Markt für Souveniers. Eindrucksvoller war da die Wanderung um die Laguna Cuicocha, bei welcher jedoch das Wetter nicht allzu glücklich ausfiel. Komplett durchnässt kehrte ich zurück nach Otavalo. Am darauffolgenden Tag gönnten wir uns etwas Erholung im Thermalbad von Chachimbiro. Das von einem Vulkan aufgeheizte Wasser war angenehm warm bis heiss und tat gut nach fast 20km wandern am Tag davor.
Nächster Stop war Mindo, die Reise führte übers nördliche Quitó und dann weiter nord-westlich ins etwas tiefer gelegene Mindo. Das kleine Dorf liegt mitten im Regenwald umgeben von einer atemberaubenden Natur. Auch bekannt für seinen Cacao- und Kaffeanbau. Wir erkundeten die Jungellandschaft und wanderten zu sieben Wasserfällen auf dem Weg.
Nach fast zwei Monaten ist es nun aber wieder Zeit für Strand und Pazifikküste!
After a few days in Quitó, south of the Ecuador, we traveled back to the northern hemisphere. First for three nights to Otavalo and then another two in Mindo.
In Otavalo we visited the well-known but in my opinion rather unspectacular market for souvenirs. More impressive was the walk around the Laguna Cuicocha, where the weather was not too happy. Completely soaked, I returned to Otavalo. The next day we enjoyed some rest in the hot springs of Chachimbiro. The water heated by a volcano was pleasantly warm to hot and did well after nearly 20km of hiking the day before.
The next stop was Mindo, the journey took us through the northern Quitó and then further north-west into the slightly lower Mindo. The small village is located in the middle of the rainforest surrounded by breathtaking nature. Also known for its cocoa and coffee cultivation. We explored the jungle landscape and walked to seven waterfalls along the way.
After almost two months, it is time for the beach and the Pacific Coast!
