Zipolite & Mazunte, Oaxaca

Categories Beach, Mexico

After the 12 hours bus trip it was nice to arrive at the beach. In Zipolite I found a nice place to camp at Camping & Cabañas «La Habana» and this for 2 USD directly on the beach! Perfect to use my new tent I got from two Germans a couple days ago. I stayed 3 nights, enjoyed doing nothing and the good food. Fresh fish in the restaurant next door for 6 USD.
The first evening the sunset was breathtaking, certainly one of the most beautiful of my trip so far.

After 3 days I went further north to Mazunte, just 15 minutes away. There was the beach camping more expensive and for almost the same price I found a small private room. Good location with great other backpackers. I also met again a British couple, which I had already known more than 2 months ago in San Cristobal de las Casas. The world is small.
Again, I stayed only three nights. Mazunte has much more to offer than Zipolite, you will find lots of good food, mezcal, yoga, meditation and accordingly some hippies.

Now I continue to Puerto Escondido, the largest town on the coast of Oaxaca. Here I will certainly stay longer, it’s good to surf, has several beautiful beaches and bays and it is also a popular holiday destination for Mexicans.

I am looking forward to my time in Puerto, from many travelers I have only heard positive things. Everyone loves Puerto Escondido!
